Afni Leads United Way of McLean County With Record Giving Posted on September 7, 2009 |
BLOOMINGTON -- United Way of McLean County announced a fundraising campaign goal on Wednesday that campaign chairman Mark Peterson admitted is a "stretch" but vital in light of state budget cuts to human services.
United Way hopes to raise $4,780,000 in its annual campaign that began Wednesday and continues through the end of the year. That would be a 3 percent increase over the $4,639,500 raised in the fall 2008 campaign.
Peterson said an example has been set by Afni, the collections services business that served as the United Way campaign pacesetter. John O'Donnell, Afni vice president and chairman of its pacesetter campaign, said employees donated $73,453.71 - a 34 percent increase over last year. With a $10,000 corporate gift, Afni's total contribution is $83,453.71.
In addition, Afni has 49 Leadership Givers - people who give $500 or more each year - a 60 percent increase over last year.Afni asked employees who have used programs funded by United Way to tell their stories and focused on increasing the number of Leadership Givers, O'Donnell said. |
